Malak Muslih wasn’t supposed to be at Al-Baqa Café yesterday. But war doesn’t follow schedules.
She was there to upload photos and videos from HUMANITE’s work that prove Gaza is still standing. The kind that show how even in ruins people still rise.
Malak had just filmed our latest hygiene aid distribution. She was trying to create something hopeful. Something the world needed to see.
But before she could hit send the airstrike came.
An Israeli missile hit the beachside café, a place where Palestinian aid workers, journalists, and survivors tried to salvage bits of normal life. At least 20 were killed. Malak was one of them.
Most won’t risk filming on the frontlines. Most won’t stay when things fall apart. Most won’t believe peace is still worth building.
Malak was not like most.
She belonged to this community, doing her part to build a world where everyone rises. Even when bombs fall. Even when the price is everything.
Now we have to rise for her.
Her family has lost their daughter. We’ve lost our teammate. But we won’t let this loss break us.
