After 20 years of work in conflict zones around the world, recent events in the United States have led us to marshall our resources to address the impacts of rising authoritarianism.

From Minneapolis to Memphis, Chicago to Philly to Los Angeles and countless towns and cities in between, seemingly unregulated masked forces and/or militia are racially profiling, targeting, and kidnapping innocent families off the streets, forcibly displacing men, women, and children from their legal homes, and leaving them to fend for themselves in far flung deserts and concrete jungles.

This is behavior that America has always claimed to oppose abroad.

Now our government is perpetrating these acts against its own people at home.

How We’re Helping:

Along with partners in the Somali/Muslim community across Houston, and the Somali-American community across Minneapolis who invited us into this work, we are funding safe, private transport from Houston back home to Minneapolis for those taken and abandoned by I.C.E. in far away states.

It costs ~$900 to get someone home after I.C.E. illegally kidnaps and abandons them. What it provides:

• hotel (up to 2 nights)
• food (up to 8 meals)
• private vehicle and driver
• hygiene kit
• clothes (where necessary)
• diapers (where necessary)

For years you’ve helped HUMANITE serve forcibly displaced people around the world. We never thought we’d need to deploy our expertise in the U.S., but we’ve never sat by idly while our neighbors suffered—and we won’t start now.
