Before the war, Jaber was a welder, building doors, windows, and metal fences across Gaza.
Then war damaged his home, displaced his family, and took away his livelihood. During the war, his daughter developed diabetes and now depends on daily medication.
Like thousands of skilled workers across Gaza, Jaber wanted to work again.
But rebuilding wasn't that simple.
With Israel continuing to block the building materials needed to rebuild homes and businesses in Gaza, rebuilding became nearly impossible.
Instead of giving up, Jaber searches through bombed buildings for steel, recycles it, and transforms it into doors, windows, bakery ovens, fences, and other essentials families need to rebuild.
With support from HUMANITE, Jaber received welding tools that allowed him to work again, earn an income, support his family, and help families who can't afford repairs rebuild their homes for free.
His story reminds us of something important: Gaza is full of skilled people ready to work again.
