Once one of Latin America’s richest countries, Venezuela now stands among the world’s deepest humanitarian crises, and one of its most volatile.
Years of hyperinflation, sanctions, and political breakdown have destroyed incomes and emptied shelves. Hospitals run short of medicines. Schools close for lack of power and teachers. Families queue for bread they can no longer afford.
Now, a growing confrontation between the United States and Venezuela threatens to turn this humanitarian emergency into a regional war.
Behind the headlines, families are the ones paying the price, forced to survive on one meal a day, choosing between food and medicine while fearing what tomorrow may bring.
Yes — and dangerously so.
In September 2025, U.S. warships and stealth jets began operating in the Caribbean under a “counter-narcotics” mission. Venezuelan officials called it a direct act of aggression, accusing Washington of preparing regime-change operations.
By October, things had escalated further:
– U.S. forces struck a Venezuelan-linked vessel, killing six people in international waters.
– Caracas warned of potential attacks on the U.S. Embassy, calling the deployments a provocation.
– UN experts condemned the strikes as likely violations of international law.
Together, these events have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty across the region. While inside Venezuela, families already struggling to eat now live under the shadow of possible conflict.
Venezuela’s economy has not recovered, it has collapsed deeper. Independent economists estimate inflation at 85 percent and unemployment above 45 percent. Real wages cannot keep pace with the price of rice or cooking oil.
Power outages last hours each day.
Fuel shortages make food transport nearly impossible.
Millions depend on humanitarian assistance that arrives sporadically and is often politicized.
With Washington’s recent military buildup, the population now faces a dual crisis, hunger and fear. Every rumour of airstrikes or sanctions sends prices soaring overnight.
Yes.
Every indicator points to heightened instability. The mobilization of U.S. naval and air assets in nearby waters, bombers, submarines, and special-operations helicopters, has prompted the Venezuelan military to activate its defence networks.
Inside the country, desperation grows. Armed robberies for food, fuel, or medicine are rising. Blackouts darken entire cities. Parents send children to bed hungry, hoping schools reopen so at least lunch is guaranteed.
Without relief, hunger and fear could turn to violence, both within communities and across borders.
HUMANITE works in Maracaibo and surrounding communities to meet the most immediate needs: food, education, stability.
Your donation feeds children who would otherwise skip their only meal of the day. It funds hygiene workshops for mothers, and gives schools supplies to keep classrooms open.
And beyond relief, your support protects peace, proving that when the world shows up with compassion, conflict loses its power to spread.
When you give, you accelerate HUMANITE's local efforts and holistic approach to peace. Here’s a look at our work in Venezuela:
Hot lunches, clean drinking water, and snack packs for children in Zulia, the country’s most food-insecure region.
Basic goods, school materials, and hygiene kits for families trapped by inflation and job loss.
Outreach, education, cooperation, and media to bridge divides and promote peace before it’s too late.
Workshops on child safety, mental health, and nutrition that help parents and teachers protect kids from hunger, stress, and exploitation.
